Healthy Initiatives Through Medical Activities
At Vasavad, again a rural area, situated about 30 km. from Gondal, in 1979-80, SSAT had constructed a full-fledged hospital with 40 beds for indoor patients. The hospital was fully equipped with necessary infrastructure such as a pathological laboratory, surgical equipment and X-ray machine facilities. The Hospital Complex provides the staff with accommodation facility attached with a well-maintained garden and also a Children’s Park, a truly unique facility in such a remote rural area.
Since 1981, SSAT has been operating a Mobile Dispensary within the circumference of 50 kms. from Vasavad, with a view to facilitate the rural population by serving the patients at their doorstep, on a regular basis. These mobile hospitals are also carrying out vaccination and other treatments for new-borns. Besides anti-poison injections are also administered in case of Snake or Scorpion bites in rural villages, particularly in the monsoon crop season.
With a view to meet the vehicular need for emergency treatment for needy patients, SSAT is operating an ambulance service at the hospital. This helps rural patients within 50 kms. surrounding Vasavad to reach their destination on time, in case of emergency treatment.
At times, diagnosis camps are also organized by bringing in various renowned specialists - ophthalmologists, dentists, cardiologists, TB-Chest Specialists, from metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi, etc. to help rural patients get treated for diseases in its early stages. To mitigate the distress during the camp, such renowned specialists from far cities, diagnose, treat and operate the patients at their village doorsteps, free of cost.
For rural patients, to avoid any difficulty, SSAT has provided a moderate rate, medical store adjacent to the hospital, well-equipped with all types of medicines, so that the illiterate, rural population can get their medicines easily. This medical store offers medicines on a no-profit, no-loss basis.
SSAT proposes to build a large, ultra-modern facilitative Polio/ Orthopaedic hospital with all the latest machineries at Gondal, Dist. Rajkot. SSAT have already acquired requisite land for the hospital and is on the verge of completing other legal formalities.
